It's a Wild World
The next adventure our family went on while in San Diego was a trip to the zoo. The San Diego Zoo is world famous so we were excited to spend a day there exploring. While we were having our photo taken at the entrance to the zoo, the photographer recommended that we go on a bus tour of the zoo first and then walk to whatever else we wanted to see after that. I was skeptical at first about riding a bus around the zoo, but when Miles saw the double decker buses driving around he was sold. He actually wanted to ride the buses more than he wanted to ride the sky ride. Of course we had to sit up on top of the bus for the tour.

The bus tour did not disappoint us and we got to see a lot of the zoo while riding around on top of that bus. Since the San Diego Zoo is one of the few zoos that has panda bears, we made sure to stop by and see them while we were there. The female was posing for us as we walked by.
Miles also wanted to see the elephants and we found this extinct bird along the way that used to eat kids the size of Miles. OK, maybe that's not entirely true, but if there were kids the size of Miles around when it was alive, it could have.
We also stopped to see the polar bears, although Miles was more interested in playing in the helicopter and the polar bear den than he was in seeing the bears.
Leah enjoyed the zoo too. She loved the petting zoo and would have spent her whole day there squealing at all the animals and patting them. She also loved playing on the slides and riding on top of the tour bus. She was a little worn out that afternoon and ended up taking a nice long nap in the stroller.

Everywhere we went, Miles wanted to know if they had slides to play on. Fortunately most places did have playgrounds for the kids and we spent some time at all of them. They both loved looking out the little window on this tree house at the zoo.

When we were all done, we told Miles he could pick out a souvenir from the zoo to take home. The only thing he wanted was to make a souvenir penny at one of those machines with the crank that squishes the penny and makes a design on it. We didn't have the right change to make one so we stopped for an ice cream and made sure to get 51 cents in change. Miles liked that idea.
We made a souvenir penny for Miles and he was so excited to carry his penny around in his pocket. Then we went to pick out a souvenir for Leah and since a squished penny didn't seem like much of a souvenir we told him to pick something else out too. This is what he picked. And of course, like all of Miles' favorite toys, the tiger head ended up in bed with Miles that night.
